BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) -- Brazil's president says he is confident his country's state oil company will stay in Ecuador despite a brewing battle with that nation's government.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva says current tensions between Petroleo Brasileiro SA and Ecuador over a disputed Amazon oil field "aren't as significant as they appear."
He urged both parties Tuesday to negotiate a solution -- but admitted they could part ways if a deal fails.
If that happens, Lula said "Petrobras will find another path, and Ecuador will find other partners."
Ecuador's president accused Petrobras of failing to hand over the Amazon oil field and threatened to nationalize the project if the company didn't give up control soon.
