UK growth slows to zero percent

British economic growth totally stopped between April and June, ending more than 15 years of continuous expansion.

Government figures have revealed the growth figure of 0.0 percent, ending the run of 63 consecutive quarters, or nearly 16 years of growth.The figures are a strong indicator that the country is on the vrink of recession.Economists say that preliminary data shows that the crashing housing market, falling consumer confidence and inflation are running at double the government targets.

In the midst of the worst housing crash for 30 years, Britain's construction industry has been hit the hardest, the national statistics office said, with construction output falling 1.1 percent.Manufacturing output fell by 0.8 percent, according to the government figures.
