Dollar rises, gold falls in Europe


LONDON—The U.S. dollar was mostly higher against most other major currencies in European trading Friday. Gold fell.
The euro traded at $1.4680, down from $1.4702 late Thursday in New York. In afternoon trading in New York on Friday, the euro fetched $1.4658.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Thursday, included 108.65 Japanese yen, down from 109.56; 1.1006 Swiss francs, up from 1.0994; and 1.0617 Canadian dollars, up from 1.0519.
The British pound was quoted at $1.8215, down from $1.8284.
Later, in afternoon trading in New York, the dollar bought 108.68 yen and 1.1017 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.8201.
Gold traded in London at $833.00 per troy ounce, down from $838.25 late Thursday.
