
Politicians, businessmen and bureaucrats start submitting applications to TAC

Politicians, businessmen and bureaucrats have started submitting applications to Truth and Accountability Commission (TAC) praying for voluntary confession of their corruption and surrender of illegal properties. Meanwhile, the TAC accepted 17 applications(The Bangladesh Today)since its inception on August 3 till date and it expected that a further number of applications will be submitted to the commission within the next few days. "We have already accepted 17 applications from different persons specially politicians, businessmen and bureaucrats. According to the ordinance, these persons are being informed about what they will have to do in this respect. For maintaining secrecy, TAC will not disclose their name. After submission of the applications, their legal process, specially those who are fresh, will begin within 22 days. On the other hand, those who are coming through Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) their legal process will start within 60 days," TAC Chairman Justice Habibur Rahman Khan told reporters at a weekly press conference held at TAC office in the city on Wednesday.He said the interested persons will have to come with applications within the first day of next month. "If the TAC considers the turn over of the suspected corrupt persons is not sufficient, it will extend the deadline. The hearing of these cases will be in camera but a lawyer will be present there. However, the TAC retains the option of disclosing some information in the interest of people," Justice Habibur Rahman Khan said.The TAC Chairman said the number of suspected corrupts and black money holder will increase day by day. "We are expecting that within the first day of next week, a huge number of suspected corrupts and black money holders with applications, will come to us and they will confess their misdeeds," Habibur Rahman Khan said. The suspected corrupts and black money holder can submit their money to the Finance Ministry through Code No- 1210100011902. The Finance Ministry has sanctioned this Code Number.
